FAQ

The custom extrusion process is highly specialized. In this process, an aluminum alloy billet material is forced through a die using a powerful ram. It will come out of the die through means of the same type of force used to push toothpaste out of the tube. Aluminum can be extruded into a variety of desired shapes such as round tubes, solid squares, & angles. The process can also add such features as tongue and groove or sliding fit, which saves costs later on.
Heat treatment enhances the properties of extruded aluminum in a couple of different ways. It greatly increases the tensile strength, and enhances the yield stress strength and improves the machinability of most extruded alloys the extruded aluminum.

One of the factors affecting the lead time is the complexity of the die needed to create the shape for your custom aluminum extrusion project. The size and geometry of the desired project will affect how long it will take to create the right die. In addition, a more complex shape may require more than one run to get the die producing finished parts to tolerance. After the die has been created and tested, your aluminum will be extruded and then finished. The type of finishing needed for your project also will determine how long the lead time ultimately is.

Howard Precision is a company who has a deep understanding of aluminum properties, meaning you can always expect the finest quality from them. They also can have your custom extrusion projects completed and delivered to you in as little as 6-8 weeks.
